The History of Cross Point Baptist Church
Cross Point began on June 22, 1997 as the result of a burden that God had placed on Pastor J.T.'s heart to begin a new work in Atmore, AL with the number one purpose of winning souls.
Our first service was on June 22, 1997 at the Atmore City Hall with 87 people in attendance. After meeting in the City Hall for two weeks and in the Johnson Quimby Funeral home once, we moved to the old Otasco building, located on Church Street, and stayed there for one month. After being in the store building for two weeks, we were approached by Unity Baptist Church with an offer to buy a piece of property located on Jack Springs Rd, which contained a church building less than two years old.
After much prayer and by the direction of the Holy Spirit, we decided to step out on faith and purchase the new building. We had the first service at our new location on August 3, 1997. Since that time we have grown in membership and in spiritual maturity. In this same year, we began our "Challenge to Build and Grow" program, and by the fall of 1998 (within one year) we had raised the money to pay off the debt that was owed on the church property.
In the spring of 1998 we remodeled our sanctuary, installed new pews and a sound system.
By 1999, the blue prints had been drawn for our new addition (which included a Fellowship Hall, Sunday School Rooms, Bathrooms and Three Offices) thus, began our journey to find a contractor to build.
Easter Sunday April 23,2000, we presented an Easter program entitled "The Promise", which lasted over four weeks and ended with over 100 decisions being made to follow Christ.
We held our Ground Breaking service on Sunday July 23, 2000 and construction began two weeks later.
September 5, 2000 was a special day because this was the first day of school for "Cross Point Christian Academy".
We had Sunday School in our new classrooms for the first time on January 7, 2001.
February 25, 2001 was our "Building Dedication Day". We had a packed house for both services, and were able to use the Fellowship Hall for the first time. (This was a tremendous blessing compared to all of the dinners that we held in the double wide trailer.)
On Monday morning November 19, 2001 we signed 89.3 FM "The Light" on the air with full Christian programming. Since that time, we have changed our radio station to 1610 AM, WGTP.
We purchased all of our television equipment and began videoing all of our services in 2001.
On April 19, 2002, our first Sunday School bus was donated to us.
We had our first annual Camp Meeting April 25-28 2002. We had an average of 50 in the morning services and an average of 180 in the night services. When all was said and done, we had over 20 decisions made to follow Christ.
As you can see we have come a long way in 7 years: from $37,000.00 to over $400,000.00 in property value, to seeing people healed of migraine headaches, stomach disorders, Cancer, liver disease, tumors disappearing, and comatose patients wake up the very next day after the church prayed for them. This happened to two different people. And the biggest miracle of all was to see over 1,500 people come to receive Jesus as their Saviour. PRAISE THE LORD!
As you can see this proves that God is still in the miracle business.
Just remember that this is only the beginning.........
The Word Of The Lord spoken by God on April 25, 2002 through Dr. Fred Wolfe:
God, in His sovereignty and grace has planted you, right
here in Atmore! He has planted you. This is a vine that
God has planted. It is going to be Fruitful vine.
A Fruitful Vine!
And God, in these days is building a hedge around this
vineyard, and even though the enemy might try to break
through the hedge and pluck the fruit, God is going to
protect you! And God is going to bless you!
The Word from the Lord to you tonight is: As a fruitful
vine in Atmore, God wants you to be encouraged and to
know that your Greatest Days are Just Ahead!
Don't look back! NO! You look ahead!
The Word of the Lord says: Forgetting those things which
are behind, Reaching forth to those that are before.
The Word of the Lord is:
Press On! I mean Press On!
There is much fruit from God to be put on this vine.
Be Encouraged!
Be Blessed!
Pastor, God will give you the wisdom, He'll give you the
strength. Your people will follow.
"To God be the Glory, for this vineyard in Atmore."
